Data Sources & Methodology
How TabToss ensures mathematical precision, transparent tax rates, and verifiable editorial journalism.
1. Client-Side Receipt OCR Engine
The TabToss Bill Scanner uses Tesseract.js (an open-source WebAssembly port of Google’s Tesseract OCR engine) executing locally inside your web browser. Receipt bounding boxes and text blocks are recognized locally without cloud API dependencies.
2. Editorial News & Primary Source Attribution
All articles published in the TabToss Restaurant News section are based on real, verifiable industry developments. Every article cites its primary sources—including the Michelin Guide press office, official restaurant press releases, Restaurant Dive, Eater, Reuters, AP, and official Department of Labor bulletins.
3. Proportional Tax & Tip Allocation Math
When splitting an itemized check, TabToss calculates each diner’s subtotal ratio (R_i = Subtotal_i / TotalSubtotal). Sales tax and gratuity are multiplied proportionally by R_i, ensuring zero rounding loss across diners.
